Plastic pollution
Research, advocacy and litigation addressing single-use plastic waste and the companies that produce it.
Plastic pollution is one of the environmental issues the Intergenerational Environment Justice Fund works on. As reported by ABC News, the first Plastic Waste Makers Index, published in 2021 by Minderoo, alleged that ExxonMobil was the largest producer of the plastic polymers which are then turned into single-use plastics — a claim ExxonMobil denies, saying it does not make single-use plastics. Research of that kind is what this fund’s advocacy work builds on.
The fund’s connection to ExxonMobil’s defamation suit, and the underlying California litigation over ExxonMobil’s plastics-recycling claims, both followed from work on this issue.
