The oil and gas company that filed a defamation suit naming the Intergenerational Environment Justice Fund as a defendant, later dismissed.
As reported by ABC News, the first Plastic Waste Makers Index, published in 2021 by Minderoo, alleged that ExxonMobil was the largest producer of the plastic polymers which are then turned into single-use plastics. ExxonMobil denies that claim and says it does not make single-use plastics. Following a September 2024 lawsuit brought by California’s Attorney General and several environmental organisations over its plastics-recycling claims, ExxonMobil sued the Attorney General, those groups, and the Intergenerational Environment Justice Fund for defamation, business disparagement, and interference with its commercial interests, in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. In February 2026, the claims against the Environment Justice Fund and the US environmental groups were dismissed for lack of personal jurisdiction; the claim against the Attorney General continued at that stage.
